Our Team

Monica Gavino, Ph.D., Senior Consulting Manager

Dr. Gavino has a doctorate in Human Resources Management as well as over 20 years experience in the HR field as a human resources executive, consultant and researcher.  In her executive capacity, Dr. Gavino specialized in leading the HR function in organizations experiencing significant change such as changes in leadership and strategic direction, consolidations, acquisitions and divestitures.  She has worked in various industries including healthcare, hospitality, retail, food and beverage, manufacturing, distribution, building products, education and giftware.

Her consulting work with St. Aubin, Haggerty & Associates includes assessing the alignment of HR strategy with the overall business objectives, measuring and assessing the investment in HR practices and identifying those practices with the most significant impact on organizational performance, developing strategic workforce HR plans, developing diagnostic and survey instruments, working with clients on implementation of their diversity programs, as well as conducting our “Valuing and Respecting Differences” workshop.  

Dr. Gavino is on faculty at the Graham School of Management at Saint Xavier University in Chicago where she teaches MBA and undergraduate management courses including strategic HR management and diversity management.  Her areas of interest and research focus are studying the impact of HR practices and diversity on organizational performance.  Dr. Gavino served as Chair of the Saint Xavier University Diversity Committee.  She received a grant for her research from the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology.  She has presented her research at the Academy of Management Conferences, Montreal; the International Human Resource Workshop, Murcia, Spain; the Seventh International Conference on HRD Research and Practice in Tilburg, Netherlands, and Research Forum of the Business Journal of Hispanic Research.  She has published in the Employee Responsibilities and Rights Journal and Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion: an International Journal; as well as a book chapter in Attract, Engage and Retain Top Talent: 50 Plus One Strategies Used by the Best. 

Dr. Gavino earned her Ph.D. from University of Illinois at Chicago, her MBA from Roosevelt University, and her BA from Western Illinois University.  She is a member of the Gender and Diversity and HR Divisions of the Academy of Management, Society of Human Resources Management, Management Faculty of Color Association, and Organizational Behavior Teaching Society, and the National Society of Hispanic MBAs.  She is the co-organizer of the Small Business Development Month Workshops with the Greater Southwest Development Corporation; and Instructor for the Summer Enrichment Program for Hispanic High School Students (SEP).  She is a former board member of the Northwest Human Resource Council and served as Chair of Special Leisures Services Foundation, the fundraising arm for Area 24 Special Olympics. She has been active in several charitable organizations including AidsChicago, and Big Brother Sister Program of Metropolitan Chicago.
