Jim Haggerty, Co-Founder
It is with great sadness that we inform you our early co-founder, mentor and friend Jim Haggerty passed away April 14, 2008 after being diagnosed with a fast progressive, very rare and fatal neurological brain disease called Creutzfeldt-Jakob (or CJD). He first felt symptoms in late February 2008. He checked into the hospital for a full course of tests to determine the cause, but after four days in the hospital, the results were inconclusive. As you can imagine, this was very frustrating. Especially so when his symptoms increased and more visits to more specialists proved no help at all. Finally, the family contacted a neurologist in Boston, who had seen a case like this before, ironically in a friend and fellow neurologist. This affects one in one million people each year. The family set up a lovely website: www.jimhaggerty.wordpress.com.
His daughter wrote beautifully in their blog about Jim and one of the things she said is how Jim taught us all by doing. He taught everyone "how to be good, how to do the next right thing, and if you don't know what that is, just do the next thing right."
Betsy Haggerty also wrote about people asking, "Is there anything I can do?" and she and her family would just ask this: "Smile when you think of Jim." I think that will be a very easy thing to do!
He taught us so much and left a legacy of great knowledge, skill, caring and fun that will continue to guide the values and practices of this firm.
We miss him terribly.
