"On-Boarding New Employees" Excerpt from Chapter 21: On-Boarding and Technology Even the most sophisticated e-on-boarding technology cannot give the same experience as the face-to-face encounter with the hiring manager, your peers or the company CEO when it comes to a new hire bonding and feeling welcome and accepted by the company. Technology most assuredly has its place in the on-boarding process and the technology a company chooses to employ can enhance the company's brand and contribute to the new hire gaining that all important positive first impression. It does make the new hire feel welcome when they come into work on the first day and have already filled out all the technical and legal forms online and even have been able to review information on the company history and company culture. But what really enables the bonding is the human touch provided by the relationships that will form during the first few months and the first year. The new employee will need to be shown the unwritten elements of the job, the people aspects of the company culture and still made to feel welcome! Look to chapters 20 and 22 to read more about the human touch in on-boarding.
