"Translating Business Strategy Into Talent Needs" Excerpt from Chapter 8: Identify Mission Critical Positions Mission Critical Positions are jobs that have significant influence on the execution of the firm’s strategy and are critical to the firm’s competitive advantage. In fact mission critical positions will have a disproportionate role in the company’s success. In smaller organizations this may not be as important to determine but as competition really impacts the market it becomes more and more important to assess where the most critical positions are in your organization for the best execution of your strategy. Once this is done you can measure the quality of the talent in those positions, the training and development that is spent on those positions as well as the performance ratios of incumbents in those positions. Identifying the right critical execution positions will impact your ability to compete in the marketplace at a level above the rest.
